Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Who is eligible to enter the Norfolk Clout League?
A: Entry is open to archers belonging to participating Norfolk clubs (or approved visiting clubs) who hold a current Archery GB membership.
Q: How does the scoring work?
A: Every archer competes within their own specific category based on age, gender, and bow type, across up to 36 mini-leagues; although it's highly unlikely to have every single combination of age, gender and bow type competed for in a single season! Your final individual ranking is calculated from your best three scores of the season. At the end of the season, your placement in your mini-league earns points directly for your home club. Whether you shoot Junior Longbow or Senior Barebow, winning your category awards the exact same 10 points to your club's overall total; giving every archer an equal opportunity to help their club win the league!
Available points per ‘mini league’.
1st - 10 points
2nd - 7 points
3rd - 5 points
4th - 4 points
5th - 3 points
6th - 2 points

A: League entry is £10 per season for Seniors (Mens & Ladies) and completely free for Juniors.
Q: What if I have never shot clout before?
A: Newcomers are extremely welcome! All archers must receive basic clout safety instruction prior to competing. To help you get started, the NCL hosts Have-A-Go sessions with free coaching at Fakenham Racecourse.
Q: How does the Norfolk County Clout League operate?
A: The league runs across a minimum of 8 shooting fixtures throughout the season (May to October) at Fakenham Racecourse, although other venues are likely to follow, but shall be within the county of Norfolk. See next FAQ…
Q: Do I have to attend every fixture date?
A: Not at all. You only need to shoot a minimum of 3 fixtures out of the available dates for your scores to count towards individual awards and your club's league table. The format is designed for maximum flexibility.
Q: Can I attend more than three fixtures?
A: You absolutely can! You are very welcome to attend all of the fixtures if you wish. The more you attend, the higher the total of your three qualifying scores are likely to be. It's the total of your best three scores over the season that count towards your final score.
Q: How does target scoring work on the field?
A: Archers shoot six ends of six arrows towards a central clout flag and wooden pole set a distance according to your classification. Scoring is based on World Archery Single Metric Clout rules (36 arrows per round). After each end, archers walk to the target area where a non-stretch scoring rope is looped around the central pole to measure arrow distance across 5 concentric scoring zones.
Q: How are individual season scores and club league standings calculated?
A: Scoring is calculated on both an individual and a club level.
Q: Where are the league shoots held?
A: Fixtures are currently held on the outdoor shooting range at Fakenham Racecourse, home of Fakenham Bowmen. We hope to add other venues in the future.
